SEO Or SE-No? 3 Myths About Online Marketing To Forget

Jorge Medina

Whether you blog in your downtime or you are trying to make a career with your website, the basics of online marketing should not be forgotten. With Google changing its rules quite frequently, it can be difficult to keep up with what's going on. Unfortunately, all too many people believe that learning search engine optimization techniques is simply not necessary. The truth is that there are all too many myths about SEO marketing.

Myth #1: You will only see yourself high-ranking on Google if you are a "big" blog.

Bigger blogs tend to rank higher on Google and other search engines, but this is because they offer the most authority according to Google's parameters. Still, this does not make it impossible for you to get in on it. The key is to make sure that you use targeted keywords that will make you more competitive. The more specific you can be, the more authority you can build.

Myth #2: It's not worth it to keep up with SEO. Google will just change the rules again.

It is true that Google makes changes to its SEO algorithm throughout the year, but this does not mean that your efforts are fruitless. In many cases, the new changes will not affect you at all, so long as you are not using black hat tricks. These include linking to sites that are simply spam, using too many keywords, and writing marketing material that is mostly gibberish aside from keywords. Instead, you should be using your keywords just a few times in each piece, writing excellent content that is helpful to readers, and getting links to your content on websites of high quality.

Myth #3: Keywords aren't actually all that important to SEO.

While you should not be stuffing your content with keywords, they are still important. Keywords allow a search engine to pick up information about your content, but the secret is to place the keyword just a few times throughout the content, often strategically. Strategic locations for keywords include the URL, content title, content headings, and at the beginning of the content.

When you don't believe these myths about Google and online marketing, you will find yourself in a better position to rank highly on the world's top search engine. Avoid SEO myths and continue writing excellent content with authority. Not sure how to do it yourself? Online marketing and web design firms offer assistance with search engine optimization to ensure that your content meets the guidelines for ranking.
