3 Ways You Can Help Your Web Designer Create Your Dream Website

Jorge Medina

Hiring a web design agency to create your dream website can seem like you just sit back and relax while the designer does all the work. Helping your web designer without overstepping your boundaries will make the process easier and you will be more satisfied with the results.

Draw Prototypes

Even if you are not tech-savvy, you can draw ideas for your website with pencil and paper and scan the document into a file to email to your designer. Optimally, you can use Photoshop or presentation software to block out certain areas where you want your headers or content, and develop color schemes. Sometimes it is easier to draw your ideas than it will be to convey what you want through an email or phone call. Most designers will appreciate your input and may feel more comfortable working on your design when they have a good idea what you like or dislike.

Take Photos

Most websites will have some photos and they usually come from stock photo websites. With stock photos being common, people visiting your website will know immediately they are stock photos. Instead of relying on stock photos, help your designer by taking your own photos. Fortunately, most smartphones have a good enough camera that will be suitable for basic photos. For example, a doctor's office may want to show the outside of the building and have a group photo of the practitioners and staff. This is much better than a stock photo of a doctor that does not work at your practice. For websites that will sell items, take inventory photos yourself instead of relying on the photos from the manufacturer. Visitors often appreciate seeing clothing on an actual person instead of a mannequin or lying flat on a table.

Have Realistic Expectations

Realistic expectations include what you expect your website to look like based on your budget and not expecting your designer to include features that will make your website look bad. One way to have realistic expectations is to ask your designer for examples of their previous work for similar companies or within a similar budget as yours. It is unreasonable to expect a big box store's website for a medical clinic or other small business.

One point of contention that can occur is when clients do not understand the concept of negative space or not crowding the website with features or graphics. Some clients may feel like their designer is not doing enough to create their website if it is not stuffed with colors, graphics, and features. It is important to remember your website is part of the image you convey. You do not want your website to look like a cartoon or spam, which can be unappealing to visitors and they will not take you seriously.

Playing an active role in the design process will lead to fewer revisions and frustrations while designing your website. For more information, reach out to a web design agency in your area today.
